Bus*

  • In 2006, King County Metro Transit provided 119 routes which served Downtown Seattle Mondays through Fridays. The weekday services averaged 85,000 riders each way. On weekends, King County Metro had 56 routes serving Downtown, averaging 43,000 riders each way on Saturday and 30,000 on Sunday. Metro also operates a “Ride Free” zone in Downtown from 6 am. to 7 pm. which operates 7 days a week.

  • In 2006, Sound Transit ST Express buses operated 13 routes Monday through Friday serving Downtown Seattle averaging 753 bus trips each weekday. Seven routes operate on the weekends with 446 bus trips on Saturday and 409 bus trips on Sundays and holidays. For 2006, the average ridership on the routes servicing Downtown Seattle was 22,998, Saturdays 9,392 and Sundays 6,904 riders.

  • In 2006, Community Transit (Snohomish County) operated 20 routes into Downtown Seattle with annual ridership of 2,040,956.

  • During 2006, the average daily number of ferry passengers at Seattle’s Coleman dock was 24,671.
  • During 2006, the average daily number of vehicles at Seattle’s Coleman dock was 7,807. This is up slightly from 2005 when there was a daily average of 7,707 vehicles.

Rail*

  • The Monorail links Seattle Center/Uptown to Westlake Center and Downtown. The Monorail carried approximately 239,726 riders in 2006. The Monorail was in service for approximately 11 weeks during 2006, the remaining time it was out of operation for repair.

  • Amtrak operates eight daily trains through King Street Station. The Cascades route services Vancouver B.C. (1 train daily), Portland (4 trains daily) and Eugene, OR (1 train daily). The Empire Builder runs east to Chicago (1 train daily) and the Coast Starlight south to Los Angeles (1 train daily). One additional trip to Vancouver B.C is expected to begin Summer of 2008. Total ridership in 2007 on these trains was 674,153 for the Cascades route, 343,542 for the Coast Starlight and 504,977 for the Empire Builder for a total of 1,522,672.

  • In 2006, Sound Transit operated two Sounder commuter rail lines Monday through Friday serving Downtown Seattle and averaging a total of 12 train trips (66 rail car trips) each weekday. Service operates for select events on weekends. For 2006, the average ridership on Sounder commuter rail was 6,310, Saturday event service 2,811 and Sunday event service 4,010. As of September, average 2007 ridership on Sounder commuter rail was 7,720.

South Lake Union Streetcar

  • The South Lake Union Streetcar made its inaugural run on December 12th with an estimated 8,000 riders the first day. During the month of December, all rides were free. The Streetcar runs a 1.3 mile track from Westlake Center to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, with streetcars running every 15 minutes.
