SEATTLE METROPOLITAN IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT SAFETY PROGRAM
Position Title: Downtown Ambassador

Position is classified hourly, non-exempt.
Fulltime employees (30 hours or more per week) will be eligible for medical
and dental benefits 60 days after the approaching first day of the month, receive
an annual Metro bus pass and will be eligible for two weeks of vacation annually.
Employees are eligible for participation in the 401K plan after one year of
employment. Uniforms and training provided.
Objective:
The overall mission of the Metropolitan Improvement District (MID) Safety Program
is to assist in creating a secure, well-managed and welcoming environment to
all parties who frequent the Downtown Seattle MID, including but not limited
to: tourists, business people, residents and organizations that serve the Downtown
Community. The Downtown Ambassadors will provide a uniformed, visible presence
to observe, report, and serve as sources of information to the public, police
officers, local businesses, tenants and other agencies and organizations.
Examples of Job Duties
1. Serve as goodwill ambassadors, information sources and as positive welcoming
advocates for the Downtown Seattle MID.
2. Communicate Seattle resources, sites of interest, and current entertainment,
to assist shoppers and visitors throughout the Downtown Seattle MID.
3. Interact with Downtown Seattle business representatives and tenants for communication
and support.
4. Patrol designated areas by bicycle (and occasionally on-foot) as support
to the Seattle Police Department, Seattle Streets department and Downtown Seattle
MID maintenance crews communicating problem areas and needs via communication
devices.
5. Assist with first aid and emergency situations.
6. Represent the Downtown Seattle MID and the Public Safety Program in a professional
manner at meetings and special events.
7. Complete daily activity reports and other assignments as specified by supervisor.
8. Work on special assignments, both individually and with others.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High School graduate / GED
2. Demonstrated experience with public contact positions.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills.
4. Must be in very good to excellent physical fitness. Willing and able to walk
and bicycle in an outdoor urban setting in extremes of climate for up to a 10-hour
shift.
5. Ability to work day and evening shifts, weekends and holidays.
6. Ability to work well with others.
7. Stable work history.
8. Successfully pass pre-employment tests; drug screen, reading comprehension
examination, criminal history investigation (felony convictions are disqualifying)
and must pass a bicycle rider competency exam.
