Maintenance Ambassador


SEATTLE METROPOLITAN IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT
Position Title: Maintenance Services Ambassador


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY: The Maintenance Services Ambassador is
responsible for keeping the sidewalks, curbs, and other areas of the physical environment of the Seattle’s Metropolitan Improvement District (MID) clean and free of litter, trash, and other forms of debris. Ambassadors will be assigned a specific work area within the MID. Responsibilities include sweeping, picking up trash, weeding, limited landscaping, and removal of graffiti. Maintenance Ambassadors will provide requested assistance to visitors, workers, property owners, merchants, and other users of the MID. Starting salary $9.50 per hour plus benefits including 2 weeks paid vacation, health insurance, bus pass and 401K program. Uniform and training provided.

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Ambassador Supervisor or Crew Chief

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintenance of an assigned work area of 8 to 12 blocks in size.
  • Sweeps or removes litter from sidewalks, curbs and other areas of public space.
  • Removes debris from curb line to prevent obstruction to the storm drains.
  • Locates and removes graffiti from buildings, sidewalks, and sidewalk/street fixtures.
  • Must wear uniform when on duty. Responsible for clean and neat appearance of uniform including shirt, pants, jacket, hat, scarf, belt and boots.

QUALIFICATIONS: Reading, writing, and comprehension skills required. Ability to work in an outdoor setting for extended periods. Ability to follow instructions required.

PROBLEM SOLVING: Must follow instructions and solve basic maintenance problems.

HUMAN RELATIONS: Daily contact with Supervisor and public while working. Must relate to general public with friendly and helpful attitude.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable for keeping the sidewalks clean and free of hazards in an assigned area. Accountable for removing weeds, snow, debris and graffiti from sidewalks and public space.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Works outdoors in assigned area of the MID. Exposed to all weather elements. Must be able to sweep, shovel and perform some light lifting. Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.
